Additional Services
Some visits are best handled by a member of our team other than your family physician. Call the office to book any of these.
Cervical Screening Clinics
Our nurses are trained to do routine cervical screening. You can have it done by one of our nurses or by your own family physician. Call the office and tell us who you would prefer to see.
New Brunswick now screens with an HPV test. The sample is collected the same way as a Pap test. For most people with normal results:
- Start at 25 if you have a cervix and have ever been sexually active (any genital contact, with partners of any gender).
- Every 5 years if your HPV test is negative.
- Stop after 69 if your screening over the past 10 years was normal.
- You still need screening if you are pregnant, past menopause, have had the HPV vaccine, or had a hysterectomy that left the cervix in place.
- You can stop if your cervix was removed (total hysterectomy) for a reason other than cancer and you have never had abnormal cervical cells or HPV.
If a result is not normal, your physician will explain what happens next.
Higher risk: talk to your physician
- A weakened immune system (organ transplant, HIV, or medicines that suppress the immune system): screening is every 3 years instead of 5.
- Past high-grade abnormal cells or cervical cancer: follow the plan from your specialist.
- Symptoms at any age, such as unusual bleeding, pain during sex, or unusual or ongoing discharge: this needs an assessment, not a screening test. Book with your family physician.
Please note: nursing visits are for routine screening only. If you have symptoms or concerns, please book with your family physician.
Diabetes Educator Clinics
To help guide diabetic patients in our practice with the management of their diabetes, we have the services of two Diabetes Educators, a specially trained dietitian and nurse, on Fridays at our clinic. Visits are by appointment only. Ask your family physician if this would be appropriate for you.
Vaccinations
Our nurses provide all vaccine care at the clinic. We stock all routine childhood and adult vaccines, apart from those given in school and the COVID-19 vaccine, which is available at pharmacies. If you would like to know which vaccines are recommended for you, ask to speak with one of our nurses. See Staying Healthy for the adult schedule.
Other Services
Our nurses can help you with other services without needing to see your family physician. Examples include ear syringing, routine injections (Vitamin B12, DepoProvera) and dressing changes. Contact our office and ask to book a nursing appointment for one of these reasons.
